After spending a great 3 days at Mornington it was time to move on. It was time to hit the dirt & head to Mt Barnett Road house which is about 135km from Mornington. The Gibb River Road hasn't been to bad really. We arrived at Mount Barnett road house where we were able to get fuel ( unleaded ) for the first time. Richard was able to get Diesel at Imintji which was 50km from Silent Grove.
There is no real camping at Mount Barnett, what you do, you pay a camp fee at the road house & you camp out at Manning Gorge. The camping is on the Manning Creek, what a great place to camp. As you can see we are having another camp oven meal.
The walk from the camp ground to the falls about 1.5 hours each way. It's around a 2km hike over rocky ground. The falls are a must see & the swimming was great.
When you head out to the falls & back you have to cross the Manning River. You can either cross the pool at the camp area or walk around to where the creek narrows & begin your walk.
From Manning Gorge we headed to Mt. Elizabeth which was about 70km between. Mt Elizabeth is a working cattle property. The homestead is about 30km off The Gibb River Road.
The camping grounds are good & the toilet & shower blocks are close by. There are even home cooked meals, you can have ( for a fee ) up at the homestead.
You even have the local peacocks drop around in the morning.
You can take a 10km, 4 wheel drive track & 300meter walk out to Wunnumurra Gorge.
At the end of the drive & walk this is what you see. Another great place to have a swim at.
Leaving Mount Elizabeth we drove 170km to Drysdale River Station, where we met up with a couple from WA. Bill & Vanessa. They also owen a Quantum.
It was good to get to Drysdale River Station, the camping was good & the ladies were able to do some washing.
The Hamburgers were great as you may see.
Just down the track there was a river crossing where Chris took the Prado for a wash.
After the car wash, Chris & Colleen sat in the river to cool off.
After 2 days at Drysdale we headed of to King Edward River which is on the road to Kalumbura. The road between Drysdale & King Edward was SHIT!!!!!!!!!!. As you may see part of the bull bar shock loose.
The drive from Drysdale to King Edward was about 100km of corrugation but the camp site was good, its near the falls.
The water fall at King Edward.
You can even have a swim, up stream of the falls.
If you take a short walk from the falls you can find some Wandjina art.
